En una muestra de compromiso firme con la justa causa de la liberación de los Cinco Héroes cubanos injustamente encarcelados en los Estados Unidos, la Asociación de Amistad con Cuba de Wellington adoptó un mensaje de apoyo y solidaridad para ser enviado como una contribución al evento “5 días por los 5 en Washington DC”, organizado por el Comité Internacional por la Libertad de los Cinco, que tendrá lugar del 30 de mayo al 5 de junio de 2013.
El Comunicado fue leído por la Secretaria de la Asociación, Sra. Gillian Magee, en el marco de la actividad organizada en la Embajada de Cuba para conmemorar el 52 aniversario de la victoria de Girón, y fue endosado por todos los presentes, entre los que se encontraban miembros de la Asociación, cubanos residentes y otros amigos de Cuba, así como el colectivo de la Embajada.
En el mensaje los participantes denuncian las arbitrariedades y violaciones que condujeron a la injusta condena de los Cinco patriotas cubanos y hacen un llamado a fortalecer la batalla por su liberación.  En ese contexto, expresan su apoyo al Diálogo en Washington en el marco de la segunda jornada de 5 días por los 5.

On this very symbolic day in which we celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the historic victory of the Cuban people over the U. S. aggression at Playa Girón, the Cuba Friendship Society in Wellington, New Zealand, reaffirms its support and solidarity with the cause of the Cuban Five unjustly incarcerated in the United States.
Like those who heroically fought and died in Girón to defend Cuba´s sovereignty and independence and the achievements attained by the Cuban people, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón Labañino Salazar, Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, Fernando González Llort and René González Sehwerert are also Heroes that were fighting terrorism to protect the life of their people from terrorist attacks organized, prepared and carried out from the US territory with the acceptance of the US Government.
They have committed no crime.
Their trial was politically motivated.
The US Government and the Miami media conspired to create a hostile environment of propaganda and prejudice for that trial.
This prevented them from receiving justice.
The sentences handed down to these brave men are unjust and abusive.
They are political prisoners.
Today, after almost 15 years of this continuing violation of the Cuban 5’s basic human rights, the US Government continues to lie and deny the unjustness of their treatment of them.
It is time for us to raise our voices even louder in our demand for their freedom.
The Cuba Friendship Society in Wellington expresses its solidarity and support to The Second “5 Days for the Cuban 5 in Washington DC”.  We cannot physically be with you at this important event, but we will be there in spirit.
